This fairytale mountain is the highest one in Africa, 5896 metres above sea level and permanently snow-capped, and is also the highest “free-standing” mountain in the world. Kilimanjaro has two peaks that can be seen in Tarangire on a clear day.There are coffee plantations and cultivated land at the foot of the mountain. Those wishing to climb it have several routes to choose from. Marangu (1550 m above sea level) is the usual starting point.
